Brookes Backs up the Boast, Takes Slopestyle Gold
Mia Brookes called her shot before X Games Aspen 2024, telling X Games Research weeks prior to Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle that, “I’m gonna win X Games this year! Everyone’s going down!” No lies detected. The heavy-metal lovin’, F-bomb droppin’ British teenager dominated the field from her first run and logged the three highest-scoring runs of the entire contest. For good measure, she became the first woman snowboarder to land a 1440 at X Games. The 17-year-old -- the second-youngest athlete at XG Aspen 2024 -- earned her first X Games medal in the process.

But it wasn’t all about Brookes: Broadcast analysts Torah Bright and Craig McMorris agreed it was probably the most progressive women’s slopestyle comp in history, with four women posting scores above 90. Kokomo Murase kicked off what became an historic weekend by taking silver, while Reira Iwabuchi flashed an incredible line through the rail garden for bronze, her first XG Slopestyle medal (and 4th overall). Props also to Anna Gasser, who tallied a 91.33. It may have been the XG Norway 2017 Slopestyle champ’s best slopestyle run ever, but she was just pipped for the podium by Iwabuchi’s final pass.
