2024 Medal Moments

Aspen 2024 Men's Snowboard Big Air

X Games Aspen 2024 was Taiga Hasegawa’s third X Games appearance, and the 18-year-old delivered. The Japanese teen showed why he was a pre-event favorite in Big Air, becoming the first person to land a switch backside 1980 in competition. It powered him to gold, his first X Games medal. Hasegawa paired the switch backside spin with a backside 1980 in Run 3 and a strong Style score in Run 1 (a switch method air) to total a 94: Taiga finished an outrageous 11 points ahead of the silver medalist. For context, 2nd place to 6th place were separated by only 10 points. That’s how far ahead of the field Hasegawa was on this night.

Aspen 2024 Women's Ski Knuckle Huck

X Games Aspen 2024 hosted history’s first women’s Knuckle Huck contests, and Canadian teen Olivia Asselin captured Ski Knuckle Huck gold. Like many of her fellow Quebecois riders, Asselin boasts tremendous rail chops. Those skills were well-suited to Knuckle Huck’s debut, as Asselin flashed stylish moves like a flatspin 540 cribbed straight from the Knuckle Huck archives -- X Games champ and current XG Ski analyst Tom Wallisch threw the trick as an embedded reporter in the first Ski Knuckle Huck contest at XG Aspen 2020. It’s Asselin’s second X Games medal; she took Big Air bronze as a rookie at XG Aspen 2022.

Aspen 2024 Men's Snowboard Slopestyle

Red Gerard ended years of frustration and finally captured the only major slopestyle title that had eluded him: X Games gold. Gerard, whose previous best finish was bronze (in 2020) from 8 previous XG Slopestyle starts, looked great in practice all week on a rail-heavy course well-suited to his strengths. That carried over to the final, when he stomped clean runs in all three passes and improved incrementally with each, climaxing with an eye-popping 97.00 in his final run. It was enough to narrowly edge Mark McMorris, the GOAT and two-time defending XG Aspen champ.

Aspen 2024 Women's Snowboard Slopestyle

Mia Brookes called her shot before X Games Aspen 2024, telling X Games Research weeks prior to Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle that, “I’m gonna win X Games this year! Everyone’s going down!” No lies detected. The heavy-metal lovin’, F-bomb droppin’ British teenager dominated the field from her first run and logged the three highest-scoring runs of the entire contest. For good measure, she became the first woman snowboarder to land a 1440 at X Games. The 17-year-old -- the second-youngest athlete at XG Aspen 2024 -- earned her first X Games medal in the process.
